Country by Eurasian Interiors
Cornerstone Sonoma Welcomes Country by Eurasian Interiors a new home decor and furnishings store dedicated to California Wine County living. Finding good company situated between Artefact and A New Leaf Gallery, the store is owned and operated by long time San Francisco shop keepers Leon Monderer and Eric Wang.

Just days before opening, I snuck into the store to find Leon directing the placement of large crates that had just arrived from France, and Eric busy setting a table display - knee deep in pomegranate clippings. With only two days to go, Leon’s list was growing long of things that had still not arrived – bright outdoor rugs, two large French tables, blankets from South Africa and a collection of beeswax candles poured into halved wine bottles. But what most troubled Leon was the discovery that the store lacked a “proper” welcome sign – “something bright and cheery” he explained “that reads open for your pleasure” To me, the sign’s message tells a lot about the Austrian who came to the US in his twenties and has called San Francisco his home for over 30 years. Leon is a true gentleman with a quick smile and gentle wit.
Netsuke Special while supplies last – $24.99
Of the many beautiful pieces at Country, their collection of Netsuke, hand carved
miniatures from Japan, was what really caught my eye this holiday gift giving
His Partner Eric Wang is equally as charming and warm, but it was his incredible understanding of Chinese art and antiquities that brought the two together to open their first store, Eurasian Interiors, in 1998. “Eric has an excellent knowledge of Chinese history and a great love for Chinese art and furniture. Myself, I grew up in a home where Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture was greatly appreciated. Together we created Eurasian Interiors.” The much loved shop on San Francisco’s Union Street - a beautiful blending of their European and Asian backgrounds - was an immediate success and remains a mainstay for those in the Bay Area in search of unique and exquisite home furnishings.
Country, their new store with a capital “C”, captures the essence of Wine Country style. Antique old world furniture, including one Biedermeier piece whose top drawer opens to reveal a writing table, earth-tone alpaca throws from South Africa, rustic wood and metal chandeliers, Italian ceramic tableware and Belgian table cloths are just a few of the offerings you will find in this graciously appointed store. And you’ll be surprised by the number of items that cater to ones more economical gift giving needs like a collection of Japanese netsukes reasonably priced at $26, fun artsy canvas totes, beautiful lacquered trays and lovely sets of dessert plates that could easily double as jewelry holders.
I love this store and hope you will too.
